Venu Sports will merge linear and digital feeds from all three broadcasters into a single subscription service, targeting cord-cutters and 'cord nevers'.
Subscribers will have access to linear feeds of ESPN, Fox Corporation, TNT Sports U.S., and the ESPN+ platform, marking the first time ESPN and Fox channels are available via streaming without a cable subscription.
The branding reveal of Venu Sports is a major development, previously known by the nickname ‘Spulu’ due to the lack of formal details since its announcement in February.
The joint venture is led by Pete Distad, a former Apple and Hulu executive, signalling strong leadership and experience in the streaming industry.
More than 150 engineers are currently working on the platform, which is now being tested internally to ensure a robust launch.
This new venture is set to launch in autumn, aiming to be operational in time for the National Football League (NFL) season.
The firm aims to make premium sports content more accessible to a broader audience, including those who have never subscribed to cable TV, thereby expanding the overall market for sports streaming.
The success of Venu Sports will depend on consumer readiness, pricing, and marketing efforts, as the platform aims to blend digital distribution benefits with traditional bundle economics.
Pricing has not yet been announced, but most Wall Street analysts and industry observers have predicted it will cost at least $40 a month.
Venu Sports aims to compete in the increasingly crowded streaming market by offering a unique value proposition - consolidated access to premier sports content from multiple major broadcasters, a strategy expected to attract a diverse audience of sports enthusiasts.
